Old Mother Hubbard Brand

As a pet owner, we've always tried to feed our dog the best possible foods. Top notch quality food with no table scraps was what we were told by vets(though we've bent that a bit at times).

Over the last year, we've tried a variety of the premium brands, and to our dismay, many were on the recall list. One of the premium brands that hasn't been affected (at least not yet) is Wellness formula by Old Mother Hubbard.

We came across this brand at our local pet store and gave it a try. The company makes a variety of wet and dry foods as well as treats. The foods are said to be all natural, and they do not contain any by-products or wheat gluten. They also claim their treats are home made and again, with all natural, healthy ingredients.

Our dog has been eating these brands on and off for about a year, and exclusively for the last three months. His coat is shiny, he's full energy (a bit too much energy sometimes :-)) and has gotten a clean bill of health from the vet. Even more then this, he eats it all up. My pup can be finicky sometimes, especially with the wet food, but he loves wellness formula.

I get nothing out of endorsing this product except that hopefully it might help someone who is looking for a dog food to trust.

I like to give my dogs some variety, so I will try this on your recommendation. I have despaired of ever cooking for them. If they don't like it I will have to sic them on you...

It's funny because my mom's dog will not eat her own food when it's dry (not mixed with the canned food), but she'll eat the Wellness food just as it is. I like this brand as well.

i have been feeding my dog wellness (dry) weight management formula since sept 2006 and am very happy with the product, she mops up every spec of food in the dish, i also smear a spoonful of canned pumpkin across the top like its icing, she cleans her dish, and laugh if you wish, but i have tasted a nugget and as far as dry dog food goes, wellness has a freshly baked taste to it, so i feel no guilt at all feeding wellness as opposed to table scraps.

Our 10-year old Cairn Terrier has been plagued with skin ailments most of her life. Back in April I switched her to "Wellness" and no more problems. I feel like I experienced a miracle. Also, Lizy is a "picky" eater but she loves "Wellness."

I was utterly dumfounded when I opened a brand new bag of a premium dog food and found what looked liked cob webs, and then, there they were, MAGETS. I don't want to bash this brand until I understand HOW this can be possible? And will it happen again? I am afraid to purchase this brand again in fear of what I might find.
Has anyone expierenced this before?

Please help with your comments. Thanks, DN in Arizona

The food is likely not to blame, but the store which kept it way too long, long after it was supposed to expire. Look at expiration dates to make sure. Any food without an expiration should not be trusted. I know Wellness has an expiration date. Wellness is a great brand. I will be feeding Wellness brand dog foods to my puppy. I've read lots of books, done lots of research online and otherwise, and have decided on Wellness/Old Mother Hubbard.
